Tunisia
Tunisian authorities on Thursday lifted a night time curfew imposed barely two weeks ago.
This follows what authorities say is an ‘improvement in the security situation’.
“Given the improvement in the security situation, it has been decided as of Thursday … to lift the curfew across the country,” a statement from the Tunisian Interior Ministry said.
The night time restriction came into effect following a wave of protests by some unemployed youth in the country who were demanding to be employed.
The protests which started in the poor central region of Kasserine quickly spread across the country.
It was sparked by the death of an unemployed youth who was protesting the removal of his name from a public service hiring list.
Tunisian Prime Minister Habib Essid had said at the height of the protests that he understood the demands of the young Tunisians but added it would take time to respond to their economic demands.
